To apply for SSC MTS you need: Class 10 (matriculation) pass from a recognised board. The age limit is 18–25 years, calculated as on the crucial date in the notification.

Post-wise age limits can differ. The official notification for each cycle is final.
Other conditions
- Nationality: Citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or other categories as specified in the notification.
- Havaldar (CBIC/CBN) and some MTS posts allow up to 27 years.
