To apply for RRB ALP you need: Class 10 plus ITI in a specified trade, or Class 10 plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship, or a diploma/degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering. The age limit is 18–30 years, calculated as on 1 July of the notification year.

Post-wise age limits can differ. The official notification for each cycle is final.
Other conditions
- Nationality: Citizen of India, or other categories as specified in the notification.
- Medical standard A-1 is required.
